The Everyday Mailbag-2/1/11

Another week. Another round of questions. Let’s see what America wants to know!!!

Q: How is Tennessee football doing as far as landing Blue Chip recruits ?
-James R., Nashville, TN

A: They have actually recruited well at their biggest position of need (OL). They still are looking for help in the defensive line, but they did land a great WR out of Michigan.

Q: Is Raiders former No. 1 pick JaMarcus Russell still in football,or has he become a total bust?
-James R., Nashville, TN

A: Russell is out of football. He will go down in history as one of the biggest busts ever in the NFL.

Q; What made Jeff Fisher decide to leave?
-Doreen S., Nashville, TN

A: It was a mutual decision. The Titans weren’t happy with the pace he was putting together his staff and Fisher wasn’t happy because he felt like he was a lame-duck coach with a no sense of commitment from his owner.

Q: In the event that the NFL goes through a lockout season this year, which league would benefit the most…The CFL or the UFL?
-Kareem H., Nashville, TN

A: I think neither league will benefit because neither league has a TV contract and the NFL players that are signed won’t go there because of contractual reasons. The UFL is almost bankrupt and done anyways. And as far as the players coming out, if they are drafted, they aren’t going to risk their futures in the UFL or Canada. The other players that don’t get drafted will be in the UFL or Canada.

Q: What is the Rooney rule?
-Iyisha H., Murfreesboro, TN

A: The Rooney rule was originated by the owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers, whose last name was Rooney. The rule basically says that when an NFL team has an opening for a new head coach, a coach of African-American or another descent must receive an interview for the position.

Q: Who do you think is the best quarterback playing in the Super Bowl?
-James R., Nashville, TN
A: I think that depends on how you judge the QBs. If you’re looking for a QB who makes plays to win, Big Ben is your guy. But, if you’re looking for a QB that has more talent, I would definitely take Aaron Rodgers. I think that Rodgers has to play at the highest level for the Packers to win. If I had to choose, I would take Rodgers.
