TEM’s College Football Predictions- Week 6
Another week brings another weekend of college football! There’s some interesting matchups this weekend. here are my predictions on how the games will come out!
Michigan vs. Michigan State
The Big Blue take on Michigan State in this rivalry game. The Spartans have been very tough team and have been playing pretty energetic and passionate since their coach went down with a heart attack. This game will be the biggest test to date for the Spartan defense. They are charged with the task of trying to contain Heisman hopeful, QB Denard Robinson. I think Michigan State will do a pretty good job against Robinson, but he is too special a player to be held down the whole game. But, as much as Robinson can do, the Wolverine defense must do more. The more stops they make, the more chances Michigan has to score with Robinson. I think Michigan will make enough stops to derail the momentum of Michigan State.
Prediction: Michigan 31, Michigan State 27
Alabama vs. South Carolina
This is the second big game in a row for Alabama. The Gamecocks are coming off a disappointing loss to Auburn on the Plains and will be looking to get back on the winning path. The Gamecock defense will be challenged by the Fast and Furious duo of RB Trent Richardson and RB Mark Ingram. These two guys put tremendous pressure on your defense and open up easy throws for QB Greg McElroy. The receivers for South Carolina could pose a problem for the secondary of the Tide, but the main issue is for the Alabama to make South Carolina a one-dimensional team. If they are able to do that, then QB Steven Garcia could be in for a long day.
Prediction: Alabama 31, South Carolina 17
LSU vs. Florida
Florida’s backs are against the wall. They lost a game in Tuscaloosa and now the nation is questioning their team. Jeff Demps must be the usual playmaker he is against arguably the best defense in the league. If Demps is effective, then Brantley must take advantage of more defenders creeping into the box and use his weapons. However, he must be careful if he is going to throw towards Patrick Peterson. On offense, if I were the Tigers, I would start Jarrett Lee. Jarrett Lee may make mistakes, but he does help them in the passing game and is just a generally better decision maker. If I were Lee though, I would stay away from Jenoris Jenkins. This game may come down to which offense or special teams group makes the plays. I think being at home and being backed into a corner, Florida will respond to the challenge.
Prediction: Florida 24, LSU 13
Florida State vs. Miami
This game matches up to powerhouse teams from the 90’s. Jacory Harris must be effective this game. The Florida State defense has not given up a rushing TD in 3 games, nor have they allowed any teams to get their rushing attack on track since the loss to Oklahoma. Harris must be smart and value the football and spread the wealth to his wide receivers. Christian Ponder has been aided by a reappearance of the Seminole running game this year and the running game must be a factor this game. If not, Ponder will have to try and beat the ‘Canes with his arm and that wouldn’t be a good scenario give the ‘Canes have one of the best secondaries in college football. This game will come down to mistakes and the ‘Canes and Harris have been making more than the Seminoles.
Prediction: Florida State 23, Miami 14
Tennessee vs. Georgia
Tennessee comes off a heart-breaking loss to LSU. The Vols played hard and will need to continue tHat play this week against a Georgia team that is reeling after the loss to Colorado. RB Tarean Poole is the focus of the offense for the Vols. He and the offensive line must control the Georgia defense so that QB Matt Sims will have makeable 3rd down distances. This shouldn’t be as much of an issue against a Georgia defense that has struggled mightily. QB Aaron Murray was aided by the return of WR AJ Green from suspension, but the offense still needs the running game to step up. If the running game of Georgia steps up, then Murray will be able to succeed against an undermanned Tennessee defense.
Prediction: Tennessee 24, Georgia 16
Clemson vs. UNC
Clemson is coming in off a tough home loss to Miami. Kyle Parker must continue to get help in the form of RB Jamie Harper for the Clemson offense to be successful against a North Carolina defense that has been playing without a ton of its core pieces. The Tar Heels will need a big game from QB TJ Yates in order to stay in this game. Clemson proved last week that they were susceptible to the pass and I see Yates taking advantage of some of the bad coverage. But, in the end, Clemson has more players and more depth and will tire out the Tar Heels.
Prediction: Clemson 31, North Carolina 20
Arkansas vs. Texas A &M
Arkansas takes their aerial attack on the road to Aggieland where the Aggies have an aerial attack of their own. QB ryan Mallett must be poised for the Razorbacks. If he keeps his composure, then the Razorbacks should be able to get what they want offensively. The running game should be a big factor for the Razorbacks this game. The Aggies lost a game last week where QB Jarrod Johnson played very uneven. He must take care of the ball and value the football for the Aggies to take a chance. This game could get ugly if Johnson doesn’t carry his team and make good decisions.
Prediction: Arkansas 41, Texas A & M 20
Auburn vs. Kentucky
Auburn takes their show on the road against a struggling Kentucky team. QB Cam Newton has been unbelievable this year. He is arguably the best quarterback in the SEC. If he continues to do what he has been doing, the Wildcats will be in trouble defensively. Kentucky must find continue to do what they did last game, attack the defense with their playmakers. RB/WR/QB Randall Cobb must be a big factor for the Wildcats to win this game. If not, this game could be very lopsided.
Prediction: Auburn 38, Kentucky 21
USC vs. Stanford
USC and Stanford are both coming off big losses to Washington and Oregon respectively. The Trojans must step up to the challenge defensively because QB Andrew Luck will be armed and ready to obliterate the Trojan secondary. QB Matt Barclay must gain control of this offense and must get help in the running game. If he has that, he should be effective against the Cardinal defense. Ultimately, the Cardinal will impose their will on the Trojans. Andrew Luck and the offense will carry them to the finish line.
Prediction: Stanford 35, USC 31
Nebraska vs. Kansas State
Nebraska takes their show on the road to the Little Apple for a Big 12 showdown. Nebraska’s defense will be in full effect as Kansas State will try to run the ball against them. Nebraska should dominate the Wildcat offense and give the Cornhusker offense plenty of chances to run and throw their way past a rebuilding Wildcat defense. I look for this game to get ugly.
Prediction: Nebraska 45, Kansas State 17
