The Everyday Mailbag-1/18/12

Welcome back everyone! The Everyday Mailbag is back folks! And I’ve got some great questions! Without any further adieu, here are this week’s questions!

Q: Will the Jets Mark Sanchez survive another year?
-James R., Nashville, TN

A: I don’t think he does. Next year could quite possibly be it for him in New York because with him at QB, I don’t think they will ever be a team that will threaten you on a consistent basis in the passing game. Now he does have all next year to prove me wrong, but I don’t know if I see Sanchez doing that.

Q: ‎​Will Donovan McNabb be in the NFL next season?
-Joey K., Los Angeles, CA

A: I will say this, if Kyle Boller is still playing in the NFL, then McNabb should be too. But I just have a feeling McNabb will be on a pre-game show for some network next year.

Q: Should Locker sit another year behind Hasselbeck or should there be open competition for the starting position next season?
-Getahn W., Nashville, TN

A: I think that it would surprise me if Locker gets a chance to be the starting QB. At one point, I did say that you keep Hasselbeck to be a backup QB next year, but in retrospect, I will say that Hasselbeck will start next year unless things get bad. If that happens, Locker will be the starter.

Q: Who is the Rookie of the Year so far in the NBA?
-Tiffany P., Antioch, TN

A: To me, its between Ricky Rubio and Norris Cole right now. Both are PGs and both have made both of their teams better and been very important in the success of their teams. Another guy that deserves some Rookie of the Year mention is Knicks G Iman Shumpert. He has been playing pretty well so far this year.

Q: Give me your top 5 draft picks and what the Steelers and the Cowboys need for next year. I think defensive back help is needed for both teams.
-Lyorant T., Antioch, TN

A: Well, I will say that it’s a little early for the Top 5 picks, but the guys that will definitely be in the Top 5 are Alabama RB Trent Richardson, Stanford QB Andrew Luck and USC OT Matt Khalil. Other than these three, I believe Baylor QB Robert Griffin III or LSU CB Morris Claiborne will be cracking the Top 5 as well, but that’s not a guarantee for these two purely based on what teams need. One position that you mentioned for Pittsburgh and Dallas to look at in the draft was defensive back. I think that the more pressing need for Pittsburgh is offensive line help. Then they need to get a DB after that. As far as Dallas, they need help at all levels of their defense, not just the defensive backfield.

Q: What’s going on the with the Lady Vols subpar play this year?
-James R., Nashville, TN

A: I think this answer is two-fold. The Lady Vols don’t get as much talent that they used to get because there are many other viable programs out there across the country. The second factor is that Pat Summitt isn’t exactly the same person on the sidelines. I’m not trying to downgrade or talk bad about Patt Summitt. I think she’s one of the greatest coaches to ever coach, male or female. But, it just seems like she isn’t her usual self on the sidelines this year and that is affecting her team somewhat.

The Everyday Mailbag- 12/28/11

Basketball season is here! The NBA just cranked up. Sadly, the NFL is gearing down. But in between the excitement for the beginning of a new NBA season and the movement towards the NFL playoffs, there are plenty of questions that arise. Let’s see what the Sports World wants to know!

Q: Do you think 35 bowl games is too many?
-James R., Nashville, TN

A: I do think that 35 bowl games are too many. I believe that going to a bowl game has lost its specialness and that eventually, there may be some bowl games cut. I think that’s only right.

Q: What’s the more impressive record breaking season? Marino in 1984 or Drew Brees in 2011? Obviously the year they set/broke passing records.
-Andrew V., Frederick, MD

A: I think that Marino’s was more impressive. Marino played in an era where DBs could hold and grab and physically assault receivers out there and he still put up numbers. Brees breaking the yardage record is impressive, but the game is built more for the offensive to succeed and succeed he did.

Q: What’s your Pacific Division predictions for NBA?
-Bobby C., Sacramento, CA

A: I think that in the Pacific division, its gonna be interesting. The Clippers are good. The Lakers, even though they are not up to their usual level, are also good. The wildcard in this division is Sacramento. They are talented but young. Now that youth can either help or hinder them. It should be interesting to see which it does. And lastly, the Suns are just bad all the way around. I don’t see them making the playoffs this year. As far as the order of the division this year, I have the Clippers, then the Lakers, then the Kings and bringing up the rear, the Suns.

Q: What should the Jets do with Rex Ryan and Mark Sanchez?
-Dallah S., Manhattan, NY

A: I think that the clock is ticking on whether or not Mark Sanchez is the future at QB for the Jets. I think that next year is the make or break point for his career in green and white. Also, Rex Ryan’s act is starting to wear thin on the league. It seems to not have as much of an effect as it did to start his tenure. Maybe its time he did more coaching than talking. I think he’s ok right now, but the tide could turn going into next year. Its quite possible.

Q: Who impressed/ disappointed you in the NBA this weekend?
-Kareem H., Chandler, AZ

A: I think that the Mavs disappointed me this weekend. I knew they would lose, but they looked so listless and disinterested out there on the court. They aren’t the same team as last year and it shows. Two straight home blowouts. The Wizards also were disappointing. When you have a big lead, you have to finish a team. They are young, so hopefully they will learn that. As far as impressive teams, I think the Heat were very impressive. They throttled the Mavs. I also would say the Knicks’ Carmelo Anthony was impressive. He carried the Knicks to the finish line like a star is supposed to do.

Q: ‎​How do u think the T-Wolves will do this year?
-Joey K., Los Angeles, CA

A: I think the Timberwolves will be better this year. With all that being said, they will still miss the playoffs, but I don’t think they will miss the playoffs by much.

Ballers And Wankstas Of The Week- Week 12

All the players came to the player’s ball. Unfortunately, some didn’t make it in the ball and were left standing outside. Here are the Ballers and Wankstas of the Week!

Ballers Of The Week

Mark Sanchez, QB, New York Jets (17/35, 180 yards, 4 TDs, 1 INT)
Sanchez came out and made the throws needed to pump some energy into his team. I think he needs to build upon this next week. Hopefully the Jets won’t ask him to throw this much again though. This could be fool’s gold. But I have to give Sanchez props for his great play this game though.

Chris Johnson, RB, Tennessee Titans (21 carries, 190 yards)
Johnson didn’t have that extra gear, but he was hitting holes and hitting them hard as he penetrated the Bucs defense. The next challenge will be to see if Johnson and his offensive line can keep the momentum going into next weekend in Buffalo.

Beanie Wells, RB, Arizona Cardinals (27 carries, 228 yards, 1 TD)
Everyone hope aboard the Wells train. Beanie was moving like a powerful locomotive with deadly power and speed as he ran through the Rams defense. Imagine if Beanie ran this well and his line blocked this well all the time. Now that’s a scary thought.

New Orleans Saints
Drew Brees and the boys came out and went to work on the Giants. They sliced, diced and basically dismantled the Giants. They had over 500 yards of offense, including 4 80+ yard drives that ended in TDs.

Wankstas Of The Week

Tyler Palko, QB, Kansas City Chiefs (18/28, 167 yards, 0 TD, 3 INT)
Shane Falco would be a better option at QB instead of Palko at this point. Palko made some inexplicable throws. In fact, some of his throws were into double and triple coverage. Maybe Palko should have taken the time as a backup to learn how to read defenses instead of just standing there.

Philadelphia Coach Andy Reid
I don’t know if Andy Reid gets it. His most important player is LaSean McCoy. When he gets 25+ touches, the Eagles win. When he doesn’t, they lose. My question for Reid is why wouldn’t you get your most important player touches? He is the key to you winning. Well, he may not be making the calls in Philly too much longer because of his inconsistent play-calling.

New York Giants Defense
The Giants defense didn’t show ant effort, didn’t show any sense of urgency and basically had a lackluster effort against the Saints. You would have expected more from them, especially since their playoff future is fading away.

The Everyday Mailbag- 11/29/11

Time after time, week after week, incredible game after incredible game. The passion and excitement of sports flows everyday of the week. And with the passion and excitement come exciting and great questions. Without further adieu, here are the questions the Sports World wants to know!

Q: What are the Raiders chances of making it to the playoffs?
-Lyndelle M., Clarksville, TN

A: Their chances to make the playoffs hinge on their chances to win the division. If they don’t win the division, they won’t make the playoffs and those chances aren’t looking good with the Broncos making a push with Tebow.

Q: Who’s your favorite for the Heisman?
-Kareem H., Nashville, TN

A: My favorite for the Heisman is Trent Richardson. The guy has been Ram tough all year and ran over and through almost all defenses this year. Robert Griffin III is close on his heels though.

Q: ‎​What team will suffer most from the lockout?
-Joey K., Los Angeles, CA

A: ‎​The Nuggets. They have Wilson Chandler and Kenyon Martin stuck in China and have to find replacements as well as they can’t make a run at JR Smith because he’s locked in a deal over there too.

Q: As of right now you do you have in NBA Finals?
-Bobby C., Sacramento, CA

A: I think that if the teams were as they stand right now, I would say it would be the Heat and the Lakers. But with free agency, trades and those things out there, a lot of things can change just that quick. I think that December 9th to the beginning of the season will go a long way to saying who’s the best team to make a run.

Q: When will Tim Tebow finally lose?
-Sam, Highland Park, IL
A: I think that December 11 vs Chicago will be the next time that Tebow loses.

Q: Even though Sanchez won yesterday he is average at best. Will the jets be looking for a QB next year?
-Lee L., Chicago, IL

A: I think that Sanchez had a winning game yesterday. At this point in his career, I believe he should be further along, so I think next year is the make or break year for him as the New York Jets starting QB. And yes, they will be looking around for QBs in the off-season.

Q: Who is the better game managing QB, Drew Brees or Aaron Rodgers?
-Robert R., Chicago, I’ll

A: I would go with Aaron Rodgers. But that’s like splitting hairs. You can’t go wrong with either QB. In my opinion though, I just feel that Rodgers is better at this point right now. He’s a little more careful with the ball than Brees at this point.

NFL Thursday Night Showcase: New York Jets vs Denver Broncos

You hear that! That’s the exuberant roar of NFL fans happy that the NFL week is about to start. This week brings the downtrodden New York Jets vs a Broncos team that is on the rise. Last week, Rex Ryan built up the Jets/Patriots game as Ali vs Frazier. Well, this week he needs to view this game as maybe a George Foreman return to glory. The Jets must come out swinging this week. And by coming out swinging, I mean they must pull their best punches. Enough of the boxing talk. The Jets must run the ball and run the ball effectively. Contrary to the belief of the Jets at times, they are a running team first. This means that RB Shonn Greene must get busy on the ground. RB Ladanlian Tomlinson may not play, so Greene will get plenty of opportunities. If Greene gets going, look for QB Mark Sanchez to be able to use a little bit of play action and the quick passing game to penetrate the Bronco defense. The Denver defense has been susceptible to runs, passes and pretty much anything that offenses have wanted to do to them. I look for the Jets to try and take advantage of them everytime they can.

Tim Tebow may be unconventional, but he has got it done. The Broncos have been 3-1 under Tebow’s leadership offensively and have put themselves back in the conversation for the AFC West title talk. Ok. I went a little too far with that. Well, at least they are winning and gaining ground on the rest of the division. This game will be a huge challenge for the Broncos offense due to the fact that they have been using an option-style offense and limiting the passes of Tebow. This style of play is exactly what the Jet defense wants to see. They are a physical team that likes to punish people. For the Broncos to have any chance, they must use some quick passes and also have some success in the running game. Also, the Broncos may be without RBs Knowshon Moreno and Willis McGahee, which means more is on Tebow and RB Lance Ball. The one thing I’m sure about in regards to to the Jets defense vs the Broncos offense is that WR Eric Decker may be introduced to Revis Island this week and that will not be a fun adventure for him.

Expect this game to be physical. The difference will be that the Jets have more weapons offensively and defensively than the Broncos have. I think the Jets get back on the winning track this week and take out some frustration on the Broncos.

Prediction: NY Jets 27, Denver 13
